APM History
Atlantic Public Media was
incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1993
(originally named Cape and Islands Community Public Radio)
to create a new public radio service for Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard
and Nantucket. For seven years,
founder Jay Allison
and a band of zealots pushed this along at the local and federal level.
In 2000, with WGBH-Boston
supporting and adopting our effort,
WCAI and WNAN
finally went on the air. Amen.
APM has now evolved into a production and training organization,
focusing on public media, particularly public radio,
with projects like Transom.org and many others.

In the early going, photographer Joel Meyerowitz, bless his
heart, gave us the use of this image...
to anticipate our signal crossing the water.
This image, and the single word, LISTEN,
are now the signature of WNAN and WCAI. |
